Raymond Royce Childers, age 87, of Paris, Texas, passed away on July 30, 2026. He was born on September 22, 1938, in Roxton, Texas, and lived a life marked by love, courage, and thoughtfulness.
Raymond was the beloved husband of Linda Sue (Kincaid) Childers and a devoted father to Mark Childers and Jeff Childers. He also cherished his role as stepfather to Johnny Cunny and Toni Finch. His family was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he took great pride in his grandchildren, Devon Childers, Kayla Childers, Jayden Childers, Courtney Boswell, Adrian Finch, Ariel Finch, and Alec Finch, as well as his several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Prater, and by numerous friends who were blessed by his steady presence and kind spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Dick Childers, his mother, Lona Irene (Umberson) Childers, his sister, Merle Childers, and his brothers, Haskel Childers, Doyle Childers, Glen Childers, and Jerry Childers. Though he experienced the loss of many loved ones during his lifetime, he remained a strong and caring man who carried his family’s memory with him always.
Raymond spent the greater part of his working life as a welder at Babcock & Wilcox, known to many Paris locals simply as B&W. He worked there from 1966 until his retirement in 1996. His years of dependable service and strong work ethic earned the respect of those who knew him. Before beginning his long career, he also spent a few years serving in the Army National Guard at Camp Maxey, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment.
Outside of work, Raymond enjoyed a simple and meaningful life. He loved fishing and spending time outdoors, where he found peace and pleasure in the world around him. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching football whenever he could. He also loved his favorite television show, Gun Smoke, which remained one of his favorite pastimes throughout the years.
Raymond will be remembered as a loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends. He faced life with courage and quiet strength, and his thoughtful nature left a lasting impression on those who knew him best.
