Fannindel FFA at Houston Livestock Show
A year after dealing with the last-minute cancellation of the 2020 Houston Livestock Show due to COVID-19, the 2021 Houston Livestock Show was held with limited spectators and limited vendors. Event mandated restrictions split the show into 3 waves, (groups) requiring multiple trips to and from Houston, this was intended to limit crowding and allow for social distancing. These staging waves required many Ag Teachers and assistants including Philip Burnett and Xavier Brown to make 3 single day round trips from Houston to Ladonia and back to Houston during the 9-day event! Even with all these hurdles, Fannindel FFA had a tremendous Houston Livestock Show 2021. The show team competed at a high level against some of the toughest competition in Texas and in many cases the Nation. When the dust settled and the seemingly never-ending miles of travel ended, the Fannindel FFA show team had the following placements:
Wave 1 - British Breeds
•
Alajiah Kelley- 6th Place Angus Heifer Calf Scramble Show, 10th Place Angus Heifer Junior Show.
•
Branden Dillehay- 2nd Place Shorthorn Heifer.
Wave 2 - Continental Breeds
•
Abby Duplechan- 5th Place Limousin Heifer.
•
Lyndsey Franklin- 1st place and Reserve Division Champion Charolais Heifer.
Wave 3 - American Breeds
•
Jawaylon Shaw- 1st Place American Registered Breeds (ARB) Heifer with a heifer he raised from his former show heifer.Katie Burnett- 11th Place Grey Brahman Heifer.
Great job to these hard-working students and a big thank you to everyone who made the Houston show possible. Our students could not perform at this level in these events without the strong support from our local communities, the FISD School Board and Administration. In addition, the students want to say thank you to their parents, family, and friends who helped make all of this possible and the show team sends a special thank you to Mr. Burnett and Mr. Brown for their unbelievable dedication during Houston, where the two spent 18 to 24 hours a day for the 9 days of the Houston Livestock Show, transporting both cattle and students to and from, coaching, counseling, and co-parenting a super group of Falcons!
I would like to say thank you to the different citizens, 20 of them on my list, whom share community news with me from time to time. A special thanks to Mr. Scott Franklin, Class of 1986, FHS Alumnus and current FISD School Board Member, who helps give me news and results from the FHS Livestock Show Team.
