Be Honest for the Sake of Others, Yourself, and the Lord

Honesty is one of the Lord’s marvelous secrets to happiness.

Be honest for the sake of others. You owe it to your fellow man and to your trusting friends to be straight forward and genuine. It sometimes seems that the whole world has gone crooked and phony. But this is precisely what the Christian challenge means “ For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputing: that you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. “ Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.”(Phil. 2:13-16).

Be honest for the sake of yourself. Truth frees you from the angonizing frustration of maintaining a false front. When you sincerely live up to the best, you enjoy the full confidence and respect of all who know you. Guard your integrity for it is precious. It empowers you with the self-confidence and inner strength to faithfully live for Christ. “ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.”( Prov. 11:3). “The just man walketh in his integrity:his children are blessed after him.”

( Prov. 20:7). “ To thine own self be true, and it must follow as night the day thou can not then be false to any man.”

Be honest for the sake of the Lord! Even if we could fool others briefly, there is still God from whom there is no hiding place. And has not his blessings been too marvelous for us to disappoint him?” A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.”(Prov. 22:1).

Just remember Christianity is not some push-button affair, that can be turned on and turned off at intervals. Rather, it is something that must permeate every fiber of our being. People often say, “Religion and business can’t mix,”but if a man can’t mix his religion with his business, then he’d better change his business, for he has the wrong kind.

Christ is a way of life. It will go with us into our homes & make better fathers and mothers of us. It will make better neighbors and schoolmates. Christianity will just make a better man, that’s all.
